I didn’t want to go out until I saw his picture.

I ignored Lisa as she yanked my closet open and flipped through my dress collection like she was at some boutique.

“Cathy, look at all these marvelous dresses. Gosh, girl, some of these still have the price tags on them!”

She pulled out a gold cocktail dress that I hadn’t worn. The retail stores had the best deals at the end of the season.

“How about this? It’ll make you look hot.”

“Why do I need to look hot? What kind of party is this? I’m tired tonight, why don’t you go with Jenny?”

“Jenny is busy. The party is at my parent’s house. You know how big their yard is.”

Lenora and Gary Rossi had money and loved to entertain. I’ve attended several of their marvelous parties before. But I wasn’t in the mood tonight.

All I wanted to do was stay home and order in dinner and watch some TV. It had been a tough week at work, and I wasn’t in the mood to party. Besides, I’d just found out my ex-boyfriend was getting engaged to some girl six months after I kicked him to the curb.

Though I didn’t have feelings for him anymore, but the news still hurt. I should have seen the cheater in him sooner. For all I knew, he could have been sleeping with other women from the beginning.

So tonight, I wanted to stay in, watch some television, and perhaps text this guy I met online playing More Words. We’ve been chatting for about two months. He was stunningly hot. But of course, I didn’t trust the picture he sent me was the “real” him. I was cautious of the internet and the illusions it provided. At the moment, he was a good distraction for me. We had fun flirting, and I looked forward to our dirty messages. None of my friends knew this, and I had no plan on sharing my after-hour activity.

“What’s the occasion?” I settled into the chaise in my bedroom.

“C’mon, Cathy.” Lisa sat down on my bed. “It’s Friday night. You’ve been working all week.” She huffed out a breath. “I know finding out that Jeff’s engaged is ruining your evening. But don’t give him that power. He doesn’t matter anymore.”

“I’m not giving him any power. I just feel… stupid.”

“You’re definitely not stupid. You were blinded by love. We’re all prone to it. Besides, he doesn’t deserve you. You’re intelligent, and he’s just a dumbass who didn’t know what he had.”

I could always count on her to make me feel better. “Why do you want me to go so badly?”

“Because I want to introduce you to my cousin. He’s visiting for the summer. You haven’t met him yet. I think you’ll like him. He’s not a jerk like Jeff.” She tapped her cell phone and swiped. “Isn’t he hot?”

I glanced at the image, and my heart raced. The picture was the alias Winsome33 from More Words. Shit!

“He’s your cousin?” The question came out before I could stop.

Lisa eyed me, and curiosity sparked on her face. “You know him?”

“Sort of…”
